🚔 HIGH-SPEED CHASE NEAR FILER

25-year-old Adolfo Ramirez is out on bond after authorities say he led deputies on a high-speed chase reaching more than 100 miles per hour before crashing into a home near Filer. Ramirez faces a felony charge of attempting to elude police.

⚖ JEROME COUNTY FATAL CRASH SENTENCING

28-year-old Jonathan Villagomez of Jerome County has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a July 2025 crash on Highway 93 that killed two people, including an infant. He pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and will serve five years fixed, followed by seven years indeterminate.

🚨 CALDWELL FATAL CRASH

A Caldwell man is dead following a two-vehicle crash last night at East Linden Street and South Kimball Avenue. Idaho State Police say a pickup driver failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car carrying three juveniles. The driver of the car died at the scene. The pickup driver was later arrested and booked into the Canyon County Jail.

⚡ JEROME COUNTY ENERGY PROJECT REGULATIONS

Jerome County leaders are continuing work on new regulations for large-scale energy projects. County officials say protecting public safety, groundwater, agriculture, and property rights will be top priorities.

⚖ IDAHO SUPREME COURT ON THE ROAD

The Idaho Supreme Court is taking its work on the road this week. Justices will hear cases in Rexburg on Wednesday and in Twin Falls on Thursday, with both sessions open to the public.

🏥 IDAHO ABORTION LAW TRIAL

Dr. Stacy Seyb testified in federal court that Idaho’s abortion laws have forced some patients with serious pregnancy complications to travel out of state for treatment. Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador is defending the law as a trial over medical exceptions continues in Boise.

🏛 GOVERNOR’S OFFICE STAFF CHANGES

Governor Brad Little announced several staff changes in his office. Lauren Smyser has been promoted to Director of Operations, while Niko Lostra joins as a policy advisor covering transportation and environmental issues. Deputy Chief of Staff Sara Stover is leaving for the private sector, and Darren Damon moves to a leadership role with the Division of Financial Management.

⛽ IDAHO GAS PRICES

Idaho drivers are getting a break at the pump this week. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Idaho has dropped 10 cents from a week ago to $4.51 per gallon.

🚧 HIGHWAY 50 BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

Drivers traveling on State Highway 50 near the Jerome-Twin Falls County line should expect delays Thursday. Bridge maintenance is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic reduced to one lane.

🚧 RUPERT ROAD CLOSURE

Drivers in Rupert should expect a road closure this week near the canal crossing between 8th Street and K Street. Crews are replacing a water line through June 12.

🎨 ART AND SOUL OF THE MAGIC VALLEY

The Magic Valley Arts Council has kicked off the 16th annual Art and Soul of the Magic Valley. More than 65 venues across Twin Falls are showcasing artwork, and organizers say online voting is now unlimited throughout the month-long event.

🏊 RUPERT YEAR-ROUND SWIMMING POOL

Yesterday, Rupert celebrated the completion of a project more than 15 years in the making with a ribbon cutting for its new year-round swimming pool. The $3 million facility features a unique retractable dome that opens in the summer and closes in the winter, providing year-round access for swimmers and the local high school team. Community donations helped make the project possible, and city leaders say it will improve water safety, support recreation, and help drive future growth in Rupert.

🍌 BANANA BALL TICKETS

If you missed out on Banana Ball tickets at Albertsons Stadium, there’s good news. Both nights are officially sold out, but organizers have just released a limited number of new North End Zone seating options for Friday and Saturday. With home plate set up in the northeast corner of the stadium, these seats offer a great view of all the action. Inventory is limited, so fans are encouraged to grab their seats before they’re gone.

🚵 TAMARACK RESORT SUMMER DELAY

A powerful windstorm that swept through Valley County over Memorial Day weekend is forcing Tamarack Resort to delay part of its summer season. Resort officials say high winds caused an unusual cable entanglement on the Tamarack Express Chairlift, damaging a lift tower that now must be completely replaced. The repair is expected to keep the resort’s lift-served downhill mountain biking trails closed for about a month. Resort officials say employees will remain on the job during the closure as crews work to restore service.

🎣 IDAHO FREE FISHING DAY

Grab your fishing pole and head outdoors this Friday, June 13, for Idaho’s annual Free Fishing Day. Anyone can fish without a license for the day, although all other fishing regulations still apply. Idaho Fish and Game has stocked more than 243,000 catchable rainbow trout statewide leading up to the event, and staff and volunteers will be on hand at various locations to help beginners learn the sport. Free Fishing Day events are planned across Idaho, offering a great opportunity for families to get outside and enjoy the water.

🏃 UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO TRACK AND FIELD

The University of Idaho will have two athletes competing on the national stage this week at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Senior javelin thrower Blake Sturgis became the first Vandal in more than a decade to qualify for the NCAA finals after a standout season that included multiple Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors. On the women’s side, Constanze Paoli enters the national meet with one of the fastest steeplechase times in the country after winning the Big Sky title in school-record fashion. Sturgis competes Wednesday evening, while Paoli takes to the track Saturday.

🥏 IDAHO STATE TRACK AND FIELD

Idaho State’s Axel Tirado-Sanchez is set for the biggest meet of his career this week at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene. The Bengal senior enters the national discus competition after capturing another Big Sky Conference title and qualifying through the NCAA West Regional. Tirado-Sanchez will compete Friday afternoon at Hayward Field, where he’ll look to advance to the finals and finish his collegiate career as an All-American with a top-eight national finish.
