IN-N-OUT OPENING WINDOW NARROWED
Twin Falls leaders have narrowed In-N-Out Burger’s grand opening window from three weeks to just five days. City officials say keeping the exact opening date under wraps will help discourage campers and reduce traffic headaches when the restaurant opens.
RED FLAG WARNING FOR SOUTHERN IDAHO
A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 9 today for parts of southern Idaho, including western Twin Falls County. Scattered thunderstorms could bring frequent lightning and wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour.
IDAHO LOTTERY DELIVERS RECORD DIVIDEND
Yesterday, the Idaho Lottery presented a record $90 million dividend to the state, with more than $56 million going to Idaho public schools after its biggest sales year ever.
JEROME DELAYS SCHOOL START-TIME DECISION
The Jerome School Board has delayed a decision on staggered school start times until September 22nd. The proposal would begin with the 2027-28 school year, giving elementary students an earlier start and middle and high school students a later one.
JEROME HOUSE FIRE SENTENCINGS
A 34-year-old Jerome man, Trinidad Chapa, has been sentenced to probation and drug court after admitting to starting a meth-fueled house fire in March. In a similar case, 36-year-old Miguel Marquez is set to be sentenced in August for a separate house fire last September.
TWIN FALLS STREET RESURFACING
The City of Twin Falls will begin its annual street resurfacing project the week of July 27th in north-central Twin Falls. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures, loose gravel, and minor delays as chip seal work continues for up to 60 days.
BOOM TRUCK ROLLS ONTO SUV IN BUHL
Yesterday around 7:45 a.m., a boom truck rolled onto a stopped SUV on U.S. 30 in Buhl. No one was injured, and the highway fully reopened by 11:30 a.m.
FIVE-VEHICLE CRASH NEAR ASHTON
Yesterday around 12:20 p.m., a five-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 near Ashton sent one juvenile to the hospital with minor injuries. The highway was blocked for about three and a half hours while Idaho State Police investigated.
GRIZZLY BEAR MANAGEMENT PROPOSAL
Governor Brad Little joined federal officials this week to announce a proposal giving states more flexibility to manage recovered grizzly bear populations while keeping federal protections in place. A 30-day public comment period begins tomorrow.
MAN DROWNS IN PAYETTE RIVER
Last night around 9:30, a 65-year-old man drowned in the Payette River near Rudy Park. First responders performed CPR, but he could not be revived.
DIERKES LAKE WATER SAFETY REVIEW
Twin Falls city leaders are reviewing water safety at Dierkes Lake following a drowning in May. Officials say a shortage of qualified open-water lifeguards has kept the beach unstaffed, and they’re now considering additional safety measures, including warning signs and life jacket stations.
HARMON PARK PLAYGROUND PROPOSAL
Harmon Park could be getting a brand-new playground. Twin Falls Parks and Recreation is asking the City Council to approve $356,000 in the 2027 budget to replace the aging, 30-year-old playground that’s been falling apart. The department says this year’s budget is focused on maintaining parks, trails, and courts, while local families say the current playground no longer meets the needs of older kids. The City Council is expected to consider the budget for adoption on August 28th.
BLM GATHERS SAYLOR CREEK WILD HORSES
The Bureau of Land Management gathered more than 100 wild horses Wednesday from the Saylor Creek Herd Management Area near Glenns Ferry. Officials say the roundup is needed because the herd has grown well beyond the area’s sustainable population level.
MIDDLETON TO CHARGE FOR FACILITY USE
The Middleton School District plans to begin charging community groups and businesses to use its athletic fields and facilities after acknowledging it wasn’t following its own rental policy. District leaders say the change comes as they work to offset budget cuts following the failure of a nearly $4 million levy.

CSI INTRODUCES NEW WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
The College of Southern Idaho has introduced Brendan Wheeler as the new head coach of the women’s basketball program. Wheeler becomes the seventh coach in program history, replacing longtime coach Randy Rodgers, and says his focus will be on winning, player development, and helping student-athletes advance to four-year schools.
BURLEY GREEN SOX END SEASON AS DISTRICT CHAMPIONS
The Burley Green Sox captured the American Legion B Area C District Championship, but their season has come to an end. Despite earning a berth in the state tournament, the Green Sox have declined the trip to Sandpoint, citing travel costs and coaches’ availability. Burley entered districts with just a 5-and-21 record, then caught fire, winning three straight games to claim the title and finish the season with plenty of momentum.
TWIN FALLS COWBOYS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER
The Twin Falls AA Cowboys split a doubleheader with the Owyhee Wave Tuesday night. The Cowboys rallied from a five-run deficit with a seven-run fifth inning to win the opener 17-9, highlighted by Kaden Black’s three-run double and Conner Lee’s three-run homer. Owyhee bounced back to win the nightcap 4-3, despite a two-run home run from Maddox Stadelmeir. Twin Falls wraps up the regular season Thursday at home against Idaho Prime.
CSI STANDOUT SIGNS WITH BYU
BYU has signed another CSI softball standout. Freshman catcher Maile Ha’o is heading to Provo after earning NJCAA Second Team All-American honors. She hit .359 with 15 home runs and 57 RBIs for the Golden Eagles last season.
IDAHO BASKETBALL PROGRAMS EARN ACADEMIC HONORS
The University of Idaho and Idaho State men’s basketball programs are being recognized for their success in the classroom. The Vandals earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the third straight year under coach Alex Pribble, while the Bengals received the honor for the fifth consecutive season under Ryan Looney. Idaho also had nine players named to the NABC Honors Court, while Idaho State placed six student-athletes on the list.
VANDALS NAMED TO BIG SKY ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
The University of Idaho placed 57 student-athletes on the Big Sky All-Academic Team for spring sports. The honor includes athletes from golf, tennis, and track and field, while the men’s tennis team also posted a program-record 3.75 team GPA during the spring semester.
