EDUCATION CUTS
School districts across Idaho are cutting teachers and staff ahead of the new school year as enrollment declines and costs continue to rise.
Districts including Twin Falls, Pocatello, Buhl and Parma are all reducing positions to help balance tighter budgets.
HIGHWAY 55 RIVER CRASH
Just before 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Idaho State Police said a pickup crossed the center line on Highway 55 south of Cascade and crashed into the North Fork of the Payette River.
Witnesses reported at least one person escaped the truck before being swept downstream as rescue crews continue search and recovery efforts.
IDAHO INMATE DEATH
An Idaho inmate serving three life sentences for the 2015 murders of three Boise Foothills family members has died at a private prison in Arizona.
Thirty-three-year-old Adam Dees died May 23 at the Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy, with officials ruling the death a suicide.
POST-PRIMARY BALLOT AUDITS
Idaho election officials have selected eight counties for post-primary election ballot audits, including Ada, Canyon, Gooding and Power counties.
State officials say the hand-count audits are designed to verify election accuracy and help ensure voter confidence before results are officially certified in a few days.
CAMPAIGN FINANCE COMPLAINTS
Idahoβs Secretary of State office investigated more than 40 campaign finance complaints ahead of the May primary election, including complaints tied to Jerome County Commissioner candidate Jerry Holton.
Officials say most cases were resolved without penalties, while several investigations remain ongoing.
CATTLE SHOOTINGS INVESTIGATION
Authorities are investigating after multiple cattle were shot and killed in remote grazing areas in Gooding and Jerome counties last week.
Ranchers say at least eight livestock deaths are under investigation, and the Idaho Cattle Association is now offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
SUMMIT CREEK FIRE
Firefighters continue making progress on the Summit Creek Fire near the Oakley Basin in Cassia County, with the wildfire now 46% contained after burning nearly 1,400 acres.
Crews have battled strong winds throughout the week, while other fire crews also responded to a smaller wildfire in Rock Creek Canyon near Twin Falls Friday that was quickly contained.
SCOLE FIRE
Fire crews responded Sunday afternoon to the Scole Fire burning near South Cole Road south of Tenmile Creek in Kuna.
The wildfire quickly grew to more than 180 acres before firefighters stopped its forward progress, with crews remaining on scene as containment efforts continue.

TWIN FALLS BOXER WINS GOLD
Twin Falls boxer Kendra βThe Stormβ Samargis is bringing home gold after winning all three of her fights at the 2026 Copa America Boxing event in Colombia while representing Team USA.
The eight-time national champion now sets her sights on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with the USA Boxing Nationals coming up in December.
WALK FOR WISHES MAGIC VALLEY
More than 100 people gathered in Twin Falls Saturday morning for the annual Walk for Wishes Magic Valley, raising nearly 25-thousand dollars for Make-A-Wish Idaho.
The event helps grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses, with wish recipient Liberty Tatro saying the support gives kids hope and encouragement during difficult times.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS IDAHO
Special Olympics Idaho athletes took center stage in Nampa over the weekend as the 2026 State Summer Games brought together competitors from across the state in basketball, flag football, cycling, track and field, and aquatics.
Thirty-two Idaho athletes are now preparing to represent Team Idaho at the Special Olympics USA Games later this month in Minnesota.
