BUCKHORN 2 FIRE — RAIN HELPS CREWS
Rain this morning is helping crews gain ground on the Buckhorn 2 Fire southeast of Murtaugh. The fire has burned an estimated 2,000 acres and is 50% contained, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. It started Saturday afternoon near Buckhorn Canyon, about 12 miles southeast of town. BLM fire information officer Rylan Berlin says precipitation slowed fire activity, allowing crews to begin securing the fire’s edge. Investigators determined the fire was human-caused. Oakley, Rock Creek and North Cassia Rural firefighters are assisting, and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service thanked local departments for their help.
HAGERMAN HOUSE FIRE — TOTAL LOSS
A home on Bells Rapids Road is a total loss after an early yesterday morning fire, but no injuries were reported. The Hagerman Fire Protection District responded to 50 Bells Rapids Road around 3:30 a.m. Crews from Hagerman and the Buhl Fire Department contained the flames. Hagerman Fire Chief Tim Peterson says the house was destroyed.

Investigators say a pickup driven by a 68-year-old Wallace man struck her Toyota Corolla around 1:30 p.m. She was flown to a hospital. The pickup driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The interstate was blocked for nearly 3 hours.

The victim described the suspect as a white man in his 30s with long blonde hair and tattoos on his arms. She told police she fought him off before he fled. Officers searched the area but did not find him. The investigation remains active. Anyone with information can call Boise Police at 208-343-COPS.
STATE GOVERNMENT AND BALLOT MEASURES
DYED DIESEL — IDAHO PAUSES INSPECTIONS
Idaho is suspending dyed diesel inspections for 30 days in a move Governor Brad Little says will help farmers and ranchers during harvest. Little signed the executive order Friday, with Idaho diesel prices averaging about $6.41 a gallon, according to AAA. Dyed diesel is exempt from state and federal motor fuel taxes and is normally restricted to approved off-road uses, including farm equipment. The move follows President Trump’s order allowing the fuel on highways and suspending federal penalties for that use. Little directed Idaho State Police and the Idaho Transportation Department to pause inspections while reviewing state enforcement policies. Legislative leaders, including Senate President Pro Tem Kelly Anthon of Declo, support the move, citing rising costs for agricultural producers.
IDAHO REVENUE — COLLECTIONS ABOVE FORECAST
Idaho brought in $90.3 million more than expected during the first 3 months of its fiscal year. The September revenue report shows General Fund collections running 6.8% above forecast, led by individual income taxes. Income tax withholding rose 20% compared with the same period last year. Governor Brad Little says the numbers are encouraging, but he’s calling for continued spending discipline. The gains aren’t across the board. Corporate income taxes are $10.2 million below forecast, and sales taxes are also slightly below expectations. Still, online marketplace sales grew more than 23%. State officials say they’ll keep watching revenue trends as they weigh spending priorities.
PROPOSITION 1 — CHURCH DONATES TO OPPOSITION
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated $1 million to oppose Idaho’s abortion rights initiative on the November 3 ballot. The church confirmed Friday that the money went to the Too Extreme for Idaho political action committee. It says it remains neutral on candidates but takes positions on ballot measures with significant moral consequences. Proposition 1 would repeal Idaho’s abortion laws, establish reproductive health rights and provide liability protections for healthcare providers. Faith groups are taking different sides. Catholic organizations have contributed just over $7,100 to the opposition campaign, while the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship gave $5,000 to the measure’s supporters. Interfaith Justice Idaho also supports Proposition 1, saying religious faith and support for abortion rights can go together.

KETCHUM — TRAILING OF THE SHEEP FESTIVAL
A wall of wool rolled through downtown Ketchum Saturday as more than 1,000 sheep took over Main Street for the 30th annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival. Thousands of residents and visitors lined the streets for the event, celebrating 150 years of sheep industry history in the area. Historic sheep wagons and traditional dances by Polish Highlanders, Basque and Peruvian performers highlighted the cultures that helped shape that history. Visitors also enjoyed sheepdog competitions and vendors. Some traveled specifically for the festival, while others stumbled onto the parade during a birthday trip. Many visitors say they plan to return next year.
