PUBLIC SAFETY AND LOCAL ACCESS
JEROME — EAST MAIN STREET BOIL ORDER
A boil order is in effect for part of East Main Street in Jerome after road construction struck a water line at Buchanan and East Main. The affected area includes the north side of the 200 block, and both the north and south sides of the 300 and 400 blocks. Residents in those locations should follow the city’s boil order.
KETCHUM — CYCLIST INJURED IN CROSSWALK
A bicyclist was hurt in Ketchum yesterday afternoon after police say a pickup hit her in a crosswalk at Main and Fourth streets. Officers say she activated the flashing crosswalk lights before crossing, but the truck entered her path. The cyclist was wearing a helmet and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police cited the driver for inattentive driving. The crash remains under investigation.
HAGERMAN — ROAD CLOSURE BLOCKS RECREATION ACCESS
A road closure south of Hagerman will cut off access to 2 recreation areas next week. Thousand Springs Grade closes to all traffic Monday through Friday, October 12 through 16, while Idaho Power performs maintenance at its power plant. Heavy equipment, including a crane, will occupy the road. Visitors won’t be able to reach Thousand Springs Park or Ritter Island at Thousand Springs State Park during the closure. Public access is expected to reopen Saturday, October 17.
AMMON BUNDY — RELEASED ON BAIL AFTER UTAH TRAFFIC STOP
Ammon Bundy is out on bail after a traffic stop in southern Utah ended with deputies pulling him from his pickup. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy stopped Bundy Wednesday morning on Interstate 15 because his truck had no license plate. Authorities say the registration was inactive and his driver’s license had expired. According to deputies, Bundy refused to get out when told the truck would be impounded, grabbed the steering wheel and resisted being handcuffed. He received a medical evaluation before being booked on 4 alleged offenses, including interfering with an officer and driving without registration. Bundy told St. George News he believes travel is a God-given right that shouldn’t require government permission.
HEALTHCARE AND THE ECONOMY
HEALTH INSURANCE — IDAHO RATES RISING IN 2027
Health insurance will cost more for many Idahoans next year. The Idaho Department of Insurance says rates for individual and small-group health plans will rise an average of 12% in 2027. Your increase will depend on your insurer and plan. In the individual market, Moda has the largest average increase at 23%, followed by Mountain Health CO-OP at 19%. Regence and SelectHealth have the lowest at 9%. Insurance Director Dean Cameron points to rising medical costs, but says Idaho’s market remains competitive. The department says the state’s reinsurance program will keep individual-market premiums about 16% below what they would otherwise be. Open enrollment through Your Health Idaho begins October 15, with coverage starting January 1.
IDAHO JOBS — GROWTH PROJECTED TO OUTPACE THE NATION
Idaho’s job market is projected to grow more than 4 times faster than the nation’s through 2034. The Idaho Department of Labor forecasts annual employment growth of 1.3 percent, compared with about 0.3 percent nationally. That would put Idaho’s total employment above 1 million. Healthcare and social assistance are expected to add about 34,000 jobs, with construction adding nearly 15,000 and manufacturing another 8,500. Labor officials say population growth and an aging population will help drive demand. Governor Brad Little says the forecast underscores the need for workforce training, education and infrastructure to prepare for that growth.
IDAHO AGRICULTURE — FARM REVENUE AND PROFIT PRESSURES
Nearly $6,000 per Idaho resident—that’s how much farm revenue the state generated last year, according to the Idaho Farm Bureau. Spokesperson Sean Ellis says USDA figures put Idaho’s 2025 farm revenue at $11.95 billion, or $5,887 per person. That measures agricultural production, not money paid to residents. Ellis says agriculture supports 1 in every 9 Idaho jobs and accounts for 17 percent of the state’s economic output. But those numbers don’t necessarily mean farmers are making strong profits. He says producers have faced several years of price pressure, with lower yields expected this year.
ELECTIONS
IDAHO BALLOT — ADVISORY QUESTION ON AN OFFICIAL STATE GUN
Idaho voters will choose more than candidates this November—they’ll also weigh in on an official state gun. An advisory question offers 6 choices: 2 Winchester rifles, the Colt Peacemaker revolver, the M1 Garand, the Colt M1911 pistol and the Remington Model 700 hunting rifle. The results won’t be binding. Lawmakers will have the final say on whether to add a firearm to Idaho’s list of state symbols. House Majority Leader Jason Monks says he hopes the question encourages more people to vote in an election with major races and ballot measures. Firearms historian Danny Michael says several choices have strong connections to the American West, but none was developed in Idaho. Election Day is November 3.
FRIDAY SPORTS — FOOTBALL
BURLEY–TWIN FALLS — CONFERENCE AND PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS
It’s October football with November on the line tonight in Burley. The Bobcats host defending conference champion Twin Falls in a game that could help shape the Great Basin title race—and the playoff picture. Burley comes in at 4-2, with Twin Falls at 3-3. Kickoff is at 7.
Burley coach Cameron Anderson says his team is treating tonight like the opening round of the playoffs. A big improvement for the Bobcats: protecting the football. Burley has committed just 3 turnovers this season, compared with 17 last year. Anderson credits better habits and discipline, but says Twin Falls is the most fundamentally sound team Burley has faced.
Bruins coach Ben Kohring says slowing Burley’s explosive players and handling its aggressive defense will be key. Twin Falls quarterback Ethan Hubsmith calls tonight the first part of a conference championship push, with playoff positioning and home-field advantage in mind.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL — TONIGHT’S AREA SCHEDULE

Kickoff is at 8:30 Mountain time on the CW. The Broncos have lost 3 straight in the rivalry, including last year’s 30-7 defeat in Boise, when quarterback Maddux Madsen left early with an injury. This time, Madsen comes in with 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions through 5 games. Running back Dylan Riley leads the nation with 685 rushing yards. Boise State’s defense is coming off a 6-sack performance against Utah State and leads the country in stopping opponents on combined 3rd- and 4th-down attempts. The Broncos have won 11 straight conference road openers. Tomorrow, they’ll try to extend that streak—and bring the rivalry trophy home.
