FATAL CRASH – JEROME COUNTY
Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Jerome County last night. A 2015 Ram pickup collided head-on with a Subaru Crosstrek on U.S. 93 near East 200 North. The Subaru’s 46-year-old driver from Richfield, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The pickup’s passenger was hospitalized, while the driver was uninjured.
ATTEMPTED MURDER PLOT – TWIN FALLS MAN ARRESTED
A 92-year-old Twin Falls man is in custody after allegedly crossing into Utah with plans to kill his nephew and his nephew’s wife. Police say Billy J. Nevills admitted he was seeking their home over a family trust dispute. He was arrested in Layton and faces two counts of attempted murder.
MURDER CHARGE – TWIN FALLS CASE
A Twin Falls man tied to an August police chase now faces a first-degree murder charge. Prosecutors say 33-year-old Tyler Owens shot and killed 54-year-old Shannon Kampman, whose body was found August 6 south of Twin Falls. Owens remains jailed without bond, with court hearings set for late October and November.
TIMBER SALES – BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT
The Bureau of Land Management sold nearly 47 million board feet of timber across four states, totaling more than $7.5 million. In Idaho alone, sales covered 554 acres and 6.4 million board feet, bringing in over $127,000. The BLM says these sales support jobs, local economies, and reduce wildfire risks.
ARSON CASE – JEROME MAN CHARGED
A Jerome man faces multiple felony charges after police say he set a fire in his bedroom and threatened to burn down his family’s home. Thirty-six-year-old Miguel Marquez is held on $30,000 bond, charged with arson, battery, resisting arrest, and drug offenses following the September 15th incident.
CASINO PROPOSAL – SHOSHONE-PAIUTE TRIBES
The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes have applied to the U.S. Interior Department to develop a new resort and casino on 40 acres in Elmore County. Leaders say the project would create thousands of jobs, boost Idaho’s economy, and dedicate 5% of revenue to local schools.
NATIONAL PARK UPGRADES – GREAT AMERICAN OUTDOORS ACT
Three Idaho national parks are getting major upgrades through the Great American Outdoors Act. Minidoka will see historic barracks and buildings restored, Hagerman Fossil Beds is adding fire protection, and Craters of the Moon will renovate a Mission 66 utility building. The $82.9 million in funding comes from legislation signed in 2020 by President Donald Trump.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER – MAGIC VALLEY RESULTS
High school soccer across the Valley yesterday—Gooding topped Bliss 2-0 on the girls’ side, while the Gooding boys also blanked Bliss 2-0. Sun Valley Community School was strong, with both their boys’ and girls’ squads shutting out Kimberly 4-0. Wendell’s programs rolled past Declo, the boys winning 10-0 and the girls doing the same. Canyon Ridge and Highland of Pocatello battled to a scoreless tie in both boys’ and girls’ contests. At Buhl, scores between Filer and Buhl were not reported.
Looking ahead—Mountain Home and Twin Falls collide this afternoon at 4:30. The Bruins ride a three-game win streak, most recently a 3-2 thriller over Wood River, while the Tigers edged Burley 1-0. Mountain Home comes in at 3-9, Twin Falls at 7-5-1.
Other boys’ matchups today—Minico at Burley, Jerome travels to Wood River, and Twin Falls visits Mountain Home.
On the girls’ side—the same three conference clashes: Minico at Burley, Jerome at Wood River, and Twin Falls at Mountain Home.
CSI RODEO – UTAH STATE RESULTS
The College of Southern Idaho Rodeo Teams competed at Utah State over the weekend. The Golden Eagle men placed fourth, highlighted by Dahl Winters winning Bareback Riding and Chase Andrade placing in multiple events, including fourth in the All-Around. The CSI women finished fifth, led by Rhyan Brough’s third in Barrel Racing. In the Rocky Mountain Region, CSI’s women hold first place overall, while the men sit fourth. Nationally, the women rank third, the men 12th. Next up: the USU Eastern Rodeo this weekend in Price, Utah.
PICKLEBALL – MAGIC VALLEY’S FIRST HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT
Southern Idaho just held its first-ever high school pickleball tournament as Twin Falls faced off with Burley and Minico’s “Mini-Cassia Grip and Rip.” Twenty-eight players competed in boys and mixed doubles. The boys’ title went to Abram Morgan and Nate Blauer, while Ethan Shaw and Piper Hemsley claimed the mixed crown—both teams going undefeated. Twin Falls coach Meg Greenwood says the kids are thrilled to finally have rivals, and players hope this fast-growing sport keeps growing in the Magic Valley.
FOOTBALL CONTROVERSY – POST FALLS SCHOOL BOARD
The Post Falls School Board is responding to reports of a planned student walkout tied to recent football team discipline. Trustees confirmed athletes were investigated over a photo involving weapons but said no laws were broken. No expulsions have been issued, though the board noted athletic participation is a privilege, not a right.
